BEST TRUCKEE HIKE

One of my favorite places on earth is standing on top of Donner Summit. The famed Pacific Coast Trail cuts right through Donner Summit and is easy to access off old highway 40 above Rainbow Bridge. This hike has some good elevation change but some dramatic views in every direction. Steep cliff walls, high mountain meadows, spring melt and water collection at times of the year makes it truly breathtaking.

BEST TRUCKEE BREAKFAST

Donner Lake Kitchen has been one of my favorite spots for breakfast since I was a little kid. Although Donner Lake Kitchen moved locations for a few years, they are back in Donner Lake under the same ownership. Although it is not on the lake it is close, so before and after is a great time to go and dip your toes in the water or sit on the public docks to enjoy the sunshine. Great huevos rancheros if you get the chance to make it in. Summers get really busy in there so be sure to give yourself some time to enjoy.

I love to paddleboard on Donner Lake when the wind is down and the temps are up. Donner Lake has a very low key feel with much less boating traffic. The east end of the lake has some small protected spots that are great to explore! The south side of the lake has very little traffic on the water or beach and has mountains rising right out of the water! The crisp, clear water is refreshing to enjoy.

One of my favorite beaches in Tahoe is Speedboat Beach. It is located on the North Shore near Nevada Stateline. Speedboat Beach is in a small neighborhood where parking is limited. Those who plan well can expect to find a fantastic small beach, some beautiful large boulders and crystal clear blue water. You can also find some waves to surf during a few windstorms throughout the year ­— which is a real blast!
